Old Brentwoods need just a handful of points to clinch the Essex League Division Three title after a nine-wicket win over Woodford Green.

Victory left Khalid Sarwar’s men 46 points clear of second-placed Basildon, with only two matches remaining.

And their latest success came after captain Sarwar’s five-wicket haul led the way as Green were dismissed for 137.

Sarwar dismissed opposite number Jack Cossey without scoring, with Awais Sadaqat having success at the other end with the new ball.

Australian batsman Cooper Bingham (37) defied Brentwoods the longest, before falling to Kalim Khan (2-14), with Javaad Hussain hitting an unbeaten 27 as Sarwar ran through the lower order to finish with 5-43.

And Brentwoods raced to their target inside 15 overs thanks to half-centuries from opening duo Imran Hussain (59 not out) and Ramesh Gunalan (53) to set up the chance of clinching the title at Westcliff next weekend.

Meanwhile, Ardleigh Green made it back-to-back wins with success over bottom club West Essex.

Having beaten high-flying Westcliff a week earlier, Green saw the visitors choose to bat first at Central Park and proceeded to dismiss them for 183 in 49 overs.

Tom Gentle hit an unbeaten 88 in reply, with Paul Hurworth adding 70 not out as Green reached their target in the 32nd over with seven wickets in hand.
