Essex League name side for T20 clash

Local cricketers will get the chance to take on Essex in another floodlit T20 match next month.

An Essex League XI provided opposition for the county side ahead of their domestic T20 campaign last year and will do so again at the County Ground on Thursday May 15 (7pm).

Wanstead captain Arfan Akram will coach the side, which is to be captained by Brentwood’s Aaron West and includes Tom Phillipe (Shenfield), Jack Sterland (Chelmsford), Alan Ison (Upminster), Bilal Butt (Loughton), Alfie Taylor (Chingford), Hamzah Ikram (Harold Wood), Joe Barrs (Saffron Walden), Harry Shirt (South Woodford), Aron Nijjar (Ilford) and Joe Ellis-Grewal (Wanstead).

Akram said: “The Essex League XI did themselves very proud playing against the likes of James Foster, Tymal Mills, Owais Shah, Ryan ten Doeschate, Hamish Rutherford, Graham Napier and Maurice Chambers in front of nearly 2,000 spectators under floodlights last year.

“I would like to congratulate those who have been selected for this year’s match.”
