It’s Leigh-on-Sea in the Essex Division Two tomorrow for Hornchurch and captain Roy Smith and spinner Chamikara Mudalige are certainly looking forward to being beside the seaside.

In the previous meeting earlier in the season, Smith scored 100 not out in Hornchurch’s total of 151, before Mudalige spun them to a 34-run victory with outstanding figures of 7-43 from 12 overs.

The excited Hornchurch captain said: “The same again wouldn’t be bad, I only have two centuries this season.

“Chamikara and I are both looking forward to it. They have got a really good player in Dean Waller though.

“He is a match winner on his own so if he comes off we could be in trouble, but they are like most of the other sides in this league really.

“We won’t be underestimating them, but if we play as well as we can then I know we will win.”

Smith is also hoping he can start winning the toss, beginning against Leigh.

Hornchurch have had to face tough conditions on several occasions this season and although they have passed virtually every test that has come their way, Smith would like to be playing in easier conditions.

He added: “We are losing the toss a lot this year. We are winning games, but we keep losing the toss and every week we are getting the rough end of the conditions.

“Hopefully these last seven matches we can start winning the toss and playing in conditions that suit us.

“If we can get nice weather as well it will help because the dry wickets will suit our spin.”
