Former captain set to return to action
Harold Wood’s Tom Clarke hailed the return of former skipper Richard Brabner as they prepare to visit Ilford in the Essex League Premier Division tomorrow (Saturday).
Wood are buoyed by their 59-run win over Shenfield – their first win in the top flight – and though will miss Kevin Gibson for a few weeks after he broke a finger, Clarke hopes the early win can be the start of things to come.
“It’s great to have Richard back in the fold,” said Clarke. “He is an ex-captain here and keen to get back involved and that will be great for us.
“Unfortunately Kevin will miss a few weeks after fracturing a finger out in the field, but we aren’t looking too bad.”
Despite Colin Sher leading the batting contributions with 73 and Hamza Ikram taking 4-44, Clarke felt it was a strong all-round team effort against Shenfield.
“Colin did well with the bat, but the effort of the whole team was good and though we would have liked a few more runs we knew we could work with anything over 200,” he added.
“Kevin contributed with 26 quick runs down the order and that was helpful. In reply they started quite well with 80 off the first 10, but we didn’t panic.
“Once we got Simon Keen out we then strangled them a little bit and that got us the wickets.”
