Promoted Hutton began life in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two with a 32-run derby win over Gidea Park & Romford at the Polo Field Ground.

The start of play was delayed by nearly three hours, with a total of 47 overs lost, and Sam Hewitt removed Hutton openers Cameron Tredgett and Adam Holdgate cheaply.

Vivian Paver (35) was run out after putting on 78 for the third wicket with Julian Whetstone, who hit seven fours in his 55 from 59 balls before being trapped lbw by Adam McKie.

Joseph Parry (30) and Chris Steinberg (17) added quick runs before falling to Hewitt (5-38) as the hosts closed on 154-7 from 25 overs.

Park were soon 13-2 in reply, but Michael Pegram hit 25 off 21 balls and captain Jamal Francis struck two sixes and three fours in his 48 from just 36 deliveries.

Francis put on 50 with George Rogers (20) before both fell to Connor Whetstone (5-22) as Park were dismissed for 122 in their 23rd and final over.
