Billericay secured promotion to the Essex League Premier Division with a four-wicket win over Gidea Park & Romford, who did enough to ensure their survival at the other end of the table.

Put into bat, the visitors saw Zisan Abedin (64) and Michael Pegram (55) lead the way as they reached 219-5.

Captain Jamal Francis (35) and Mahmudul Hassan (24 not out) also made starts, as David Houghton (2-37) and Ross Poulton (2-73) nabbed braces for the hosts.

Sam Hewitt produced a superb opening spell for Park to remove Billericay’s top three cheaply, but Houghton held firm and had key support from Poulton (72).

Houghton eventually fell to James Pegram for exactly 100, as Aditya Kumar and Francis also had success with the ball for Park.

But Nick Van Lint (20 not out) and Rob Lee saw Billericay to their target in the 46th over to secure promotion with champions Hadleigh, while Park finished seven points clear of the relegation zone.
