Former Hall Mead pupil heading to Caribbean
Upminster’s Beth Langston was celebrating this week after receiving her first call-up to the England women’s cricket squad.
Harold Wood-born Langston, 21, was one of two uncapped players named in the 14-strong party for limited-overs international series in the West Indies.
England play a Twenty20 tournament against the hosts and New Zealand, which starts in Barbados on October 14, before playing three one-day internationals against the West Indies.
And former Hall Mead pupil Langston, who played colts cricket at Upminster and is now studying at Loughborough, has also been named in England’s performance squad for the 2013-14 season.
The ECB’s head of women’s cricket Clare Connor said: “After an inspirational summer regaining the women’s Ashes, the England team now embarks on a full winter schedule.
“With a few experienced players currently rehabilitating injuries sustained during the Ashes campaign, a number of young players will have the opportunity to play key roles for the side in what promises to be an exciting tour.”
England squad: Charlotte Edwards (Kent, captain), Tammy Beaumont (Kent), Holly Colvin (Sussex), Kate Cross (Lancashire), Natasha Farrant (Kent), Lydia Greenway (Kent), Jenny Gunn (Nottinghamshire), Danielle Hazell (Yorkshire), Amy Jones (Warwickshire), Beth Langston (Essex), Natalie Sciver (Surrey), Sarah Taylor (Sussex), Lauren Winfield (Yorkshire), Danielle Wyatt (Nottinghamshire).
