Ardleigh Green cruised to a nine-wicket win over Basildon in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three clash at Central Park.

The visitors chose to bat first after winning the toss and their openers both made starts before falling to Trevor Oakley (2-30).

Chris Cook (2-16) also nabbed a brace from a tight 10-over spell, but Zunair Jamil was the pick of the Green bowling as he claimed 5-30 to dismiss Basildon for 109 in 40 overs.

Paul Hurworth clubbed 56 off 29 balls in reply, with Tom Gentle making an unbeatne 39 from 40 deliveries as the home side raced to their target inside 14 overs.

It meant only a second win in seven matches for Lloyd Edwards’ men, who moved to within two points of Basildon in mid-table, ahead of their trip to Chalkwell Park to take on Westcliff next weekend.
