Old Brentwoods edged past Woodford Green in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three contest.

Captain Baber Choudhary put the visitors into bat after winning the toss, but saw Hussnain Kazmi hit 74 off 57 balls, including a six and 12 fours.

Usman Sahar (44), Divij Desai (40) and Jack Cossey (35) also made starts as Woodford reached 252, with Ikrar Khan (2-18), Choudhary (2-28) and Khalid Sarwar (2-44) the pick of the Brentwoods bowling.

Ramesh Gunalan hit 51 off 44 balls in reply, with Nazim Hussain (25), Imran Bhaiya (36), Sarwar (25) and Abid Alaracu (21) also making starts in the top order to see them reach 178-4.

But Woodford hit back with the ball, as Usman Azkar (2-48), Kazmi (2-50) and Paul Richardson (2-53) all nabbed braces.

The ninth wicket fell with the Brentwoods’ total on 243, but Choudhary kept his nerve to finish unbeaten on 37 as his side edged home in the 48th over.
