Ardleigh Green ended their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three season with defeat at Stanford.

Put into bat by the home side, they lost Paul Hurworth and Grant Apicalla cheaply to find themselves 28-2.

Chris Cook (25) put on 92 with opener Choudhry Mahboob, who his two sixes and 13 fours in his 72 off 71 balls, before both fell in quick succession.

Captain Luke Edwards added a cameo 21 off 11 balls, before Scott Jackson took centre stage and scored 94 off 91 balls, including two sixes and 14 fours.

Green declared on 249-8 in the 48th over and saw Jamal Chaudhry strike before a run had been scored by Stanford in reply.

Trevor Oakley also had success, before an 81-run stand for the third wicket held up Green’s charge.

Edwards (2-37) made the breakthrough and saw Sam Brooks (2-59) have success at the other end.

But Kalum Rasika Sampath held firm for the home side and finished unbeaten on a stunning 159, from 115 balls, after hitting 10 sixes and 20 fours.

Captain Adam Knight gave support in an unbroken 95-run stand as Stanford reached their target in the 44th over.
