A cricket club is celebrating after being awarded £50,000 Lottery cash.

Hutton Cricket Club was awarded the grant from Sport England’s Inspired Facilitles fund, which provides grass roots investment to deliver a legacy after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The club, which will be celebrating its 150th anniversary next year, will be using the money to improve the club and bring in additional players of all ages.

Members added they will spend the money on refurbishing their changing rooms, and shower and catering facilities at the Polo Fields Ground, in Hall Green Lane, Hutton.

But the club will still have to raise another £10,000 to fund the project completely.

Club chairman Steve Vanner said: “We are obviously delighted by this award which will mean so much to a club of our size. It is a reward for the year-in, year-out hard work and efforts of our committee and team of volunteers.

“Some years ago we put a great deal of effort into achieving ClubMark status - the England and Wales Cricket Board’s seal of approval. This has paid off by making us eligible for this funding.”
