England’s women will have a shot at netball gold at the Commonwealth Games for the first time after a thrilling semi-final win over Jamaica on the Gold Coast.

The squad, including Barking Abbey alumni Kadeen Corbin, clinched a 56-55 win with a last-gasp goal from Jo Harten and will meet hosts Australia in the final.

But they had to come from six goals down at half time to ensure themselves a silver medal, chipping away at the deficit and levelling at 50-50 with six minutes left.

Jamaica then came from behind to make it 55-55 with only 25 seconds remaining, but Helen Housby missed a chance before Harten sank the winning shot to complete a memorable and historic victory.

Coach Tracey Neville, who won bronze at the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur, said: “What a comeback for our girls. As a player I only dreamed to be in this situation, but I was never good enough.

“It’s great to live my dream through these and they’ve just done so well.”
