Brentwood School pupil Claudia Moore won gold in The Stable Company 138cm Championships at the Horse of the Year show on Sunday.

Moore won with a time of 30.18 seconds on wonder pony Sonas Barney, a 21-year-old veteran that became the first pony to claim three successive titles in the class.

“It’s incredible to win, especially because he is 21, which is quite old to be doing what he is doing,” said the 13-year-old Moore, who helped Great Britain to team gold at the European Championships and also won individual bronze.

“He just loves it so much. It is the first time I’ve won here and I have such lovely owners, which makes this all possible.

“It means so much to me to win here. I’ve come second, I’ve come third, but I had never actually got that top spot.”

Moore, who won the Leading Pony rider of the Year award at the British Showjumping Ball a few days earlier, finished almost a second clear of runner-up Luli Loveridge of Dorset and also took third place on Tullineaskey Fear Deas.
