Five Star Boxing Club celebrate their success at the Hull Box Cup

Five Star Boxing Club won two medals at the Hull Box Cup at the weekend.

Brook Eaton, 15, struck gold after beating Kara Murray (Len Woodhall BC) with an impressive display.

And clubmate Bruce Parker, 11, picked up a silver after a strong performance against a Yorkshire rival.

Meanwhile, former Hornchurch resident Ralph Oates has published a new book on British boxing’s heavyweight history titled ‘Bruno and Lewis, the boxing years’.

Frank Bruno turned pro in 1982 and had a home in Hornchurch, like manager Terry Lawless, before winning a world title under Frank Warren in 1995, while West Ham-born Lennix Lewis won Olympic gold for Canada and held the world title from 1993-2003.

The in-depth study of their careers sees Oates produce his usual attention to detail and fans are urged to ‘beg, steal, borrow, but preferably buy’ the book, published by Fonthill Media Ltd at £16.99.
