Johnson, the London champion at Class One 44kg, dominated the quarter-final contest against the Eastern Counties title-holder, picking his shots in style to build up a clear points advantage.

He now goes forward to the semi-final contests at Farnham, Surrey, this weekend.

Sirkan Gerel (Newham) dropped a points verdict to Lansbury rival Charlie Russell on the West Ham BC club show on Friday night.

■ NEWHAM BC plan another high-class boxing tournament at the East Ham Working Men’s Club, Boleyn Road, E6 on Friday night.

They will parade their own stable of young prospects on a programme which includes opposition from leading clubs in London and the south of England.

Boxing starts at 8pm, with entrance on the door, at £10 for adults and £5 for children and concessions.
