Romford Boxing Club’s Tim Olla was crowned a National Novices champion this week, despite losing his final at Chingford Assembly Hall.

Olla faced faced Eltham’s B Ebanks over four two-minute rounds at
light-heavyweight and produced a superb performance.

After losing the first two rounds, he came back strongly to push Ebanks on to the back foot with body shots and rocked his rival on a couple of occasions.

But when the scores were announced, Olla was on the wrong end of a split points decision as Ebanks took the title instead.

However, Olla was later told that Ebanks had been disqualified and Romford coach Paul Claydon said: “His opponent was found to be ineligible having had over the 20 bouts allowed and was also an open class boxer, having won an elite open class competition in his native country.

Tim gave 100 per cent and did himself and the club proud.”
