Havering’s Toby Bishop, Bradley James and Sam Sanusi helped Essex’s junior boys reach the National Schools’ Combined Events final in Boston on Saturday.

And they will be joined by Alice Brown and Tayllah Barton-Conde, after Essex’s girls also qualified.

Bishop, a guest in addition to a four-man team after finishing fifth in the Essex qualifier, with bests in four of the five events to finish on 2762 points, four behind Chelmsford’s Oliver Early.

He clocked 11.4secs in the hurdles and impressed in the shot (10.37), long jump (5.78), high jump (1.66) and 800 (2.19.7).

Javelin specialist James was the official runner-up with 2754 points after bests in all five events – including the fastest-ever hurdles by a club under-15 (11.1). plus shot (9.91), long jump (5.60), high jump (1.60) and 800m (2.14.7).

Sanusi was fifth on 2561 points, hampered by a back strain, but managed 11.3, 11.84, 5.54, 1.50 and 2.29.5 in the five events.
