Romford Buccaneers head coach Jason Buckman wants his side to rediscover their best form over the last five games of the season.

Buccaneers face a blank weekend, before hosting newly-crowned National League Division One South champions Streatham at the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre on March 2.

And Buckman is hoping to work out a way to finally get the better of their south London rivals.

"The league position can’t be changed now before the end of the year," he said.

"So with the remaining games we have to work on the things that have brought us a good run of results since the new year, earning seven of the 12 points available."

Buccaneers will also welcome Invicta and MK Thunder to Romford in the closing weeks of the regular season, while heading to Oxford and Solent.

And they have taken points from all of those teams at some point over the course of the season, while falling to three slender losses against Streatham.

They held the home side at bay until the 26th minute last weekend, when Thomas Beesley broke the deadlock on a powerplay.

Streatham then struck twice in the space of 15 seconds later in the middle period to leave Buccaneers with a mountain to climb in the final session.

And although leading points scorer Brynley Capps replied with an unassisted effort within the first minute of the restart, for his 36th goal of the campaign, Beesley completed his hat-trick and a 4-1 win late on.

Nonetheless, Buckman saw plenty of positives.

"It was a really competitive game in Streatham and I feel like the team is edging closer every game we play them," he added.

"A tied first and third period showed we can compete but we have to understand it has to be for the full 60 minutes.

"The damage was done in the middle period and I challenged the guys in the third to finish even or better, which they did."

*Romford's Ellie Wakeling has been named in the Great Britain women's squad for their World Championship Division 1B tournament.

GB will face Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and hosts Latvia in Riga from March 31-April 6.

And Wakeling will be lining up alongside former Romford duo Ella Howard and Abbie Sylvester, sister of Raiders forward Jake.
