Brentwood's Mikki Austin says Surrey Storm will be keen to pick themselves up and land the 2023 Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship at the Copper Box Arena on Friday, after their Netball SuperLeague play-off disappointment.

Storm went down 55-42 to table topping London Pulse in the semi-finals before heavily losing to last season's SuperLeague champions Manchester Thunder 55-38 in the third-place match on Sunday.

Loughborough Lightning, who will not be taking part this Friday despite being winners in the inaugural 2017 and 2019 editions, regained the title they first claimed in 2021 after beating London Pulse 57-48 in the Grand Final.

The Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship, promoted by Brentwood-based Matchroom Sport, was last held in 2021 and won by Team Bath.

In the double-elimination group stage that guarantees all teams play at least twice and get a slice of the lucrative £100,000 prize fund, Austin's Storm get their challenge going against title holders Team Bath and face Manchester Thunder or Strathclyde Sirens in their second game.

The rest of the openers sees 2021 runners-up Saracens Mavericks play Severn Stars and London Pulse taking on Leeds Rhinos.

Austin, 29, has helped the Guildford-based to back-to-back SuperLeague titles since joining in 2015, before advancing to the joint director of netball and player role in 2018, and is looking forward to having fun in this netball money-spinning extravaganza.

"We know that Fast5 Netball All-Stars is one of the fun days of the year," said Austin.

"In an ideal world would it be at the different time of the year, absolutely. We've got to emotionally get ourselves back up when we come straight back into training.

"Fast5 Netball All-Stars is such a great day. Matchroom are a fantastic organisation. They've worked really hard alongside with England Netball for an number of years now to make sure our phenomenal sport gets another platform to be able to showcase how brilliant it is.

"We don't get that for granted. The group are really excited and it's the only competition in our entire sporting calendar that give us some prize money, so who wouldn't get up for that."

The event will also see Newham & Essex Beagles athlete and Hertfordshire-based Saracens Mavericks captain Sasha Corbin, cousin of sprinter Asha Philip, end her netball career after 18 years.
