Ukip candidate for Pettits ward Alby Tebbutt says his party is out to make a point to politicians that “ordinary people have had enough.”

Speaking at the election count, the veteran politician said although he didn’t expect to win Pettits or Squirrels Heath wards, doing so would be the “biggest shock in political history.”

Mr Tebbutt has been out in his truck campaigning on the streets, playing The Great Escape Theme, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory from his loud speaker, and claims the response he has had from the public has been the best in his 30 years of elections.

“I thought those songs were appropriate,” he said. “The Great Escape is about escaping from these current politicans. People were dancing in the streets.”
