Local Elections: Tories reclaim Squirrels Heath

14:41 23 May 2014

The Conservatives have won all three seats in Squirrels Heath ward.

Cllr Melvin Wallace won the most of the 4,681 votes, with 2,147. Cllr Damian White took 2,057 of the votes, with ex council leader Michael White receiving 2,015.

The turnout in the ward was 44.6 per cent.

Cllr Damian White said: “I’m very pleased. There was no threat from Ukip. We are community activists and people support those that help them the most. The trouble with Ukip is they don’t do much work. They have this idea that you put a rosette on someone and then they get elected.”

Two of the councillors who recently defected from the Conservatives to Ukip failed to get elected in Squirrels Heath.

Mayor Cllr Eric Munday and Cllr Lynden Thorpe received 1,299 and 1,291 votes respectively.
