Local Elections: Conservatives hold Romford Town

15:36 23 May 2014

The Conservatives have won all three seats in Romford Town leaving their former ally Cllr Andrew Curtin without a seat on the council.

Cllr Wendy Brice-Thompson, the 23-year-old Joshua Chapman and Cllr Frederick Thompson won with 2,067, 1,946 and 1,680 votes respectively.

Cllr Andrew Curtin was deselected by the Romford Conservative Association and decided to run against his former party.

On hearing he had not won, he said: “I think I lost by just a couple of hundred. It was all pretty even.

“I’m very grateful everybody. I’m looking forward to the next thing to do in life.”

Joshua Chapman is one of the youngest candidates in the borough.

He said: “There’s a lot of young people in Havering, I will be able to represent them now.”

The turnout for the ward was 40.5 per cent.
