The Tories have held Mawneys, taking them on to 19 elected councillors.

Newcomers Jason Frost and Dilip Patel gathered 2,028 and 1,771 votes each, while the absent Cllr Linda Trew won 1,952.

Ukip’s Ralph Battershall was extremely close, with 1,753 votes, just 18 behind Dilip Patel.

The turnout was 43.7pc, with 4,332 people voting.
