Local Elections: Independent Residents’ Group holds Rainham and Wennington

There was no change in power in Rainham and Wennington ward, though the Independent Residents’ Group does have a new councillor to fill the vacant seat.

Keith Roberts received 1,390 votes and will join Cllr Jeff Tucker (1,982) and Cllr David Durant (1,395) in the south of the borough, filling the vacancy left by Mark Logan.

Ukip almost took one seat, with candidate Michael Smith winning 1,284 votes.

The turnout was 48.7 per cent, with 3,757 people crossing their ballot papers.
