Oh! It's a lovely stage show

20 November 2009

THE horrors of World War One may have slipped out of living memory, but a new generation is learning about the sacrifice of their fallen forefathers.

Pupils at Bower Park School, in Romford, put on a performance of Oh! What A Lovely War - a dark, satirical take on the Great War.

Forty 13 to 16-year-olds diligently prepared for the show, staged last week, which sold hundreds of tickets.

Head of drama Lorraine Shorter said: "Over the past few years we've been trying our hardest to challenge our children - and this play was one of the most testing things we've all done.

"Oh What A Lovely War is a really dark and satirical look at the First World War and tries to show how it could have been avoided.

"The kids really enjoyed thinking about the subjects provoked by the play. In fact, some of the children who struggle academically learned a lot from being in the play.
