Marc is honoured for his bravery

23 December 2005

A COURAGEOUS young man, who threw himself in front of a runaway car to save others, received the perfect Christmas gift this week - a top bravery award.

The Royal Humane Society has told Marc Price, 23, he will receive a Testimonial on Parchment for his courage, which left doctors fearing he would never walk again.

In his rescue bid Marc, Drum Major with Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps for more than 10 years, broke his spine in two places, cracked two ribs and broke his right hip.

The photo-lab technician, formerly of Rainham, had travelled with the band to Cromer, Norfolk, in August for a festival.

Rolling

He said: "The band members turned up on a minibus and as I walked across the road I noticed a car rolling backwards down a hill.

"I saw there was a little girl inside and I didn't want it to roll over anyone so I jumped in its way to try and stop it, but it was too heavy and rolled about 20ft before crushing me against the bus."
