More than 700 pupils of Clockhouse Primary School in Clockhouse Lane in Collier Row chipped in with parents to plant 300 trees on school grounds to kick start a long-term project to develop outdoor learning.

The all-day event last Thursday was a “lovely opportunity to work with the commnuity,” according to teacher Jo Collard.

“The children had a fabulous time,” she said. “They were all told how to dig the holes and plant the trees with a cane, and of course some of the nursery, reception and Year 1 children will be here long enough to see them grow.”

The trees were donated by the Woodlands Trust and the school has now set up a gardening club to cater for the keen youngsters’ new hobby.

The school is also looking to build an outdoor classroom as part of the project.
