A 19-year-old will embark on a three-day trek across Icleand’s mountainous terrain, wading through freezing rivers and camping in the dramatic wilderness, all in the name of charity.

Aspiring police officer Henry Case will cover 53km in the land of fire and ice to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

To undertake the trip, Henry, who works in Yates’s bar, Romford, has a fund-raising target of £2,500, of which he has raised £2,100.

He said: “I have always wanted to do something to make a difference and by doing this I believe that I am helping to make that change.

“Hopefully by doing this trek I will inspire others to take action and do something for their chosen charity.”

Henry signed up for the challenge on impulse after researching the work of the hospital, which specialises in children’s care. The fundraising adventure is organised by the hospital and Henry will travel out with the team on July 9.

He said: “I’m really excited and I’m a little bit nervous. It’s the first time I have done anything like this. I have all the equipment now - I’m just waiting for two weeks time.”

Despite his excitement Henry is not underestimating the task ahead of him and has been training by talking long walks across hilly terrain.

He said: “The weather will not be too bad, five-15C, although we will cross glacial rivers. They are waist height and freezing cold.”

Henry, of Barking, is training to be a police constable.

He hopes this will be his first fundraising adventure of many and has aspirations of climbing Kilimanjaro and walking the Great Wall of China for charity.
