West Ham fan Jonjo Heuerman is inviting youngster to join in the event on Saturday (June 28) to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund in memory of his Nanny Lyn.
The World Cup in Brazil might be over for England.
But there’s still a chance they could win it in Romford.
Youngster Jonjo Heuerman has organised a charity World Cup tournament and family fun day to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund.
And the 12-year-old West Ham nut is inviting others to join in the five-a-side event tomorrow to support the charity, which was set up in memory of the footballing legend who famously led England to victory in 1966.
Jonjo said he was looking forward to following in his hero’s footsteps on Saturday.
He said: “I’m just there to have fun and play some really good football.
“I can’t wait.”
Last year, Jonjo – whose favourite position is up front – hosted a celebrity match featuring stars from Eastenders, Emmerdale, and Dream Team, as well as a kids’ mini World Cup final.
But this year, he was hoping to get more people involved to represent the 32 teams which are taking part in the Brazil tournament.
“We’ve decided to do a World Cup, so we need to get a lot of people to get involved.”
Jonjo, who lives in Kent, started fundraising for the charity after his Nanny Lyn died from bowel cancer in 2009, the same condition from which Moore died in 1993.
So far he has more than £173,000 for the fund.
At Saturday’s event, teams will choose a country out of a hat before lining up against each other at Playfootball in Romford.
The cup and fun day starts at 2pm, with registration from 1pm, and is open to boys and girls aged 12 and under.
Entry costs £5 per player, with each receiving a medal and a certificate.
Alongside the cup there will be face-painting, a bouncy castle, bar and barbecue, as well as big screens showing the action from Brazil at 5pm.
The winning side will also be presented with a replica World Cup trophy.
