The first brick has been laid on one of Havering Council’s controversial new-home projects.
Work has started on the Briar Road Estate project in Harold Hill, which will see 102 new fmaily homes let at affordable rents across 33 sites of the estate.
Residents of the estate will have “top priority” for the new homes, which are being built by Notting Hill Housing Trust.
The work forms part of the council’s Harold Hill Ambitions project, agreed in 2008, to tackle deprivation in the area.
It comes on the back of a £300k investment the Council has made to revamp nearby play area, Bosworth Field. The new park includes a fully marked out football pitch, outdoor keep fit equipment, and improved landscaping.
Cabinet member for housing, Cllr Lesley Kelly, said: “It’s great to see work gathering pace on the Briar. The estate has a thriving community spirit and that’s why I’m so keen to build on this by making sure that the local letting policy gives Briar residents top priority for the new homes once they are built.”
