A man had to be rescued from a burning house in Hornchurch by firefighters yesterday morning.

A woman and two children were able to escape from the home, in Ayloffs Close, before the brigade arrived.

Firefighters from Hornchurch and Harold Hill stations took almost an hour to bring the blaze, which started at 6am, under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
