Most places will be dry, but there is potential for slow-moving thundery downpours in places across Havering.

The Met Office has said that a thunderstorm is expected to hit Havering this afternoon and has issued a yellow weather warning.

Following weeks of hot weather a storm is expected to hit the borough between 2pm and midnight today (Friday, July 20).

A spokesman said that most places will be dry, but there is potential for slow-moving thundery downpours in places across Havering.

They said that high temperatures may set off some heavy showers and thunderstorms, which in some places could be slow-moving and persistent, bringing a risk of flooding.

In the heaviest showers some places could see 30mm of rain in an hour.

According to the Met Office there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.

It also said that where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train, bus and tube services, particularly during the evening rush hour.

Other expectations include that spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions with the possibility of road closures, and there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
