CCTV footage has emerged that shows a man walking through Collier Row with a gun minutes before he was shot dead by police.

The 41-year-old man was shot near the Esso garage on Collier Row Road at around 4.45 on Monday (April 9) morning.

Around 10 minutes before this, video footage shows the man carrying what looks like a gun along Collier Row Road.

A spokesman from Essex Heating Spares told the Recorder that the footage was taken at around 4.35am before anyone from the company was in the office.

Police were called at around 4am on Monday morning by a man making threats and claiming that he had a gun at a house in Collier Row.

Firearms officers attended the scene and were told that the man had left the address armed with a gun.

At around 4.45am he was was shot by police, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.17am.

Yesterday (Tuesday, April 10) police investigators confirmed that the man was carrying a gun.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed that what appears to be a non-police issue firearm was recovered from the scene and will be examined by experts.
