A charity wishes to say thank you to volunteers who spent a day raising money for the cause.

Paula Massingham, from Collier Row, was going to see Jersey Nights at the Southend Theatre on September 3, last year when she suffered from a cardiac arrest.

She was taken to the Barts Health Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London for treatment.

It was this incident that inspired family friend Peter Runchman, from Romford, to hold a collection at Tesco Metro in Collier Row Lane last Friday.

They raised around £40 for the cause.

Community manager at Barts Charity Simon Pitts said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Peter for organising the collection and Tesco Collier Row for having us.

“We rely on the kindness of supporters like Peter to do amazing things for the charity and help us support the wonderful work of St Bartholomew’s and the other hospitals in the Barts Heath NHS Trust.”
