Police seized eight uninsured vehicles as part of their ongoing crime crackdown.

The Operation Cubo intiative took place on Wednesday, with officers stopping vehicles in a number of locations across Havering, including Collier Row Road and Gallows Corner.

A mobile automatic number plate recgonition (ANPR) vehicle was also on patrol - identifying vehicles which are not properly licensed or insured.

Uninsured drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in criminality, more likely to be involved in collisions and less likely to keep their vehicle in a roadworthy condition.

Police Sergeant Chris Toms of Mawneys Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “Illegal drivers are a danger to both road users and pedestrians. We will continue to use every resource available to us in order to ensure that the people of Havering can use the highways in safety and to deny illegal drivers the use of our roads.”

“Havering is a safe place to live, work and raise families. Through operations such as Cubo we can maintain this status. I would like to thank the law abiding public for their support throughout this initiative.”

Operation Cubo was launched in October 2011 and has seen thousands of vehicle seizures and arrests across the capital.
