Developers have unveiled a first look at detailed plans for a retirement complex in Upminster – and confirmed the site will be named in honour of the area’s rich heritage.

McCarthy and Stone have confirmed that the site currently under construction opposite Upminster Windmill in St Mary’s Lane will be called Millstone House, in honour of the Grade II listed smock windmill which was built in 1803.

Simon Pendlebury, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone North London, said: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Upminster development that is not only meaningful, but would also resonate with local people and future McCarthy and Stone homeowners.

“Our chosen name, Millstone House, will serve as a celebration of a fantastic landmark; and I’m sure future homeowners will take advantage of the development’s close proximity to Upminster Windmill.”
