A car wash attendant was run over as a man in a stolen car sped from pursuing police in the car park of Tesco, Roneo Corner.

The man in his 20s was working as a car wash attendant at Roneo HCW when the he was run over, at about 11am today.

Lee Rud, owner of the business, said: “Someone was driving off with a stolen car. One of the boys was there and they ran him over and then he drove off. It was a hit and run.”

Mr Rud said the offender had handed his car keys to the attendant for his Subaru Impreza to be washed. He said that when police cars with lights flashing approached the area the man snatched his keys back from the victim and ran over his leg as he sped away.

The victim’s leg was left broken. He is currently receiving treatment in an east London hospital.

Police were called to the scene at 11.09 this morning. A spokesman has said that it is believed the car the offender drove was stolen.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
