The scene of the crash on the A12

Police have confirmed that the man who died in a crash on the A12 near the Brook Street roundabout is Romford’s Ronnie Marhsall.

The 26-year-old man died yesterday when his van collided with a lorry on the Essex-bound stretch of Colchester Road.

Tributes to the victim have filled social media sites.

Harry Culham posted on Twitter: “R.I.P Ronnie Marshall cannot believe you’re gone. The good die young.”

And Francesca Sorrell wrote on the Recorder’s Facebook: “Still cannot believe he has gone, you will never be forgotten Ron.”

Police were called to the road at 5.45 am and London Ambulance Service paramedics pronounced Mr Marshall dead at the scene.

The lorry driver was taken to hospital but his injuries were not said to be life-threatening.

An eyewitness told the Recorder: “I was about 300-400 yards behind the van when it crashed into the lorry and it was like an explosion.

“I didn’t see much because the sun was so low in the sky.”

Sgt Cheryl Frost, of the Metropolitan Police’s serious collision investigation unit, is in charge of the inquiry into the incident.

She said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision, or the events leading up to it, to speak to the police.

“The A12 is a major London route and would have been busy with traffic, even at this time of the morning.”

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call the witness appeal line on 020 8991 9555.
