A 32-year-old motorcyclist who died in an crash in Upminster yesterday has been named locally as Tony Jones.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision between the motorbike and a van at the junction of St Mary’s Lane and Pike Lane just after 5pm.

An air ambulance, an ambulance crew and police attended the scene and found the male driver, believed to be a former pupil of Sanders School, in Suttons Lane, Hornchurch, with serious injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.45pm and police informed his next of kin.

Police quizzed the van driver but no arrests have been made.

A post-mortem is expected to be held in the next few days.

The crash is being investigated by the Serious Collision Unit in Chadwell Heath.
