A host of closures and service alterations will affect London’s public transport and road network between Christmas Eve and January 2 - get the full details here.

The main changes to public transport services are as follows:

Christmas Eve (December 24) ‑ A reduced weekday service across the Tube network until 8pm. Last trains will be earlier than usual. Buses will run until just after midnight.

Christmas Day (December 25) ‑ No service on the entire network.

Boxing Day (December 26) ‑ A reduced service on most of the network; no service on London Overground.

New Year’s Eve (December 31) ‑ Free travel on most services from 11:45pm until 4:30am. From around 5pm central London roads will close to prepare for celebrations, so buses will gradually be withdrawn.

New Year’s Day (January 1) ‑ A reduced service will operate on most of the network.

Track replacement and new signalling installation will continue over the festive period. Even on Christmas Day more than 1,000 workers will be clocking on.

Bakerloo line

Marylebone station will close at about 10:30pm on December 24, and 8:30pm on December 26. The last Tube trains serving the station on January 1 will be at about 2:50am. The station will then close from 3am until 7am.

Central line

Chancery Lane station will be closed from Friday, December 27, to Monday, December 30.

District line

On Thursday, December 26, Cannon Street, Kensington (Olympia) and Upminster Bridge stations will be closed. The same day there will be no service between Earl’s Court and Edgware Road/Ealing Broadway/Kensington (Olympia)/Richmond until 6:30pm.

From about 6:30pm on December 26 until December 30, trains will not run between Edgware Road and Wimbledon, nor between South Kensington and Ealing Broadway/Kensington (Olympia)/Richmond/Wimbledon.

On January 1 there is no service between Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia).

Hammersmith & City line

On December 31, trains will not run between 10am and 3:45pm.

Jubilee line

From December 26 to December 30, there is no service between Waterloo and Finchley Road.

Northern line

On December 28, trains will not run between Camden Town and Edgware.

Piccadilly line

On December 26, North Ealing station will be closed, and there will be no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge until 10:30am, nor after 8:30pm.

On December 31, there will be no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

Waterloo & City line

There is no service on December 26.

London Overground

On December 22, trains will not run between South Tottenham and Barking until 12noon.

On December 23, 24 and 27, there is no service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross/Clapham Junction/Crystal Palace/West Croydon.

On December 26, there will be no service on the entire London Overground network.

From December 27 to 29, there is no service between South Tottenham and Barking.

There will be no Gatwick Express rail service between December 25 and January 1. Other operators will serve Gatwick Airport station but journeys will take longer and may involve a replacement bus. To plan your rail journey, visit


The Congestion Charge will be suspended between December 25 and January 1 inclusive.

On December 31, roads will begin to close in central London from 5pm to prepare for New Year celebrations.

On January 1, the annual New Year’s Day Parade will take place from 12noon to 3:15pm, starting at Piccadilly and finishing at Parliament Square. Roads in and around the event will be closed to traffic from 4am.
