Christmas officially arrived in Romford last week when the festive lights were switched on.

More than 7,000 people flocked to Romford Town Centre for the event last Thursday November 15 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The switch-on had something in it for everyone.

Keeping the youngsters entertained was Postman Pat and Jess The Cat.

The lights were turned on by Santa, Frosty The Snowman and Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer.

There was also entertainment throughout the evening with performances from Britain’s Got Talent finalists Twist and Pulse and Hope Murphy.

The switch-on ended with a spectacular fireworks display.

The Recorder’s canine mascot Scoopy was also on hand in giving away free copies of the paper, which was sponsored by Specsavers in Romford.
