Well-prepared thieves have stolen a car with no steering wheel from the driveway of a home in Hook End, Brentwood.
The silver Caterham Convertible, index R400 WTF, a convertible collector’s car, was taken between 7pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday.
The owner of the car, who wants to remain anonymous, said: “My Caterham R400 is only 18 months old and is in excellent condition.
“I loved driving it whenever the sun was shining and the roads were dry, but it has to be treated with respect as it’s very powerful. It’s a true enthusiast’s car. The thieves obviously came prepared as I had removed the detachable steering wheel. I’m hoping someone has information that can assist the police so I’ll get it back.”
Investigating officer, Sgt Paul Ballard, said: “The vehicle had not been moved for more than three weeks and the battery would have been flat, it also had no steering wheel inside.
“This means that the thieves would have had to push the car, and may have loaded it into a trailer or van nearby. This would have been quite an unusual sight so I’m really hoping that someone might remember seeing it and give me a call.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt Ballard, or his colleagues at Brentwood, on 101.
