The Romford Underground contest, which saw unsigned bands from Havering go head to head to win a place on a compilation CD, has won a national award.
Fifteen bands featured on the final album, which was sold in Sainsbury’s at The Brewery, Romford, last year, after an online vote picked the winning musicians.
Now The Brewery has bagged a “Green Apple” award in the “community initiative” category for its community work.
Green Apple awards recognise firms that do good work in the arenas of environment and culture.
Centre director Rubie Charalambous said: “We are very pleased to have won a Green Apple award, which is a great accolade.
“The campaign demonstrated a positive insight to what young people can achieve through hard work, determination and an encouraging platform, which allowed them to take part in a unique arts and culture programme.”
