Star Wars characters will be coming to Romford to the speed of light to help raise money for a mental health charity.

Havering Mind is holding the event at the Star Wars Convention at the YMCA, Rush Green Road, tomorrow (Saturday).

This is the chance for fans of the epic space franchise to dress up as their favourite characters.

Nick Joseph, who was in the original Star Wars film back in 1977 and played the part of the Medal of Yavin Bearer, organised the convention in collaboration with Havering Mind.

He will be joined by other Star Wars actors including Ralph Morse, Stephanie English, Chris Bunn and Sandeep Mohan, who will sign autographs and talk about their experiences on the films’ set.

There will also be a range of stalls selling Star Wars and sci-fi memorabilia, gifts and toys.

Havering Mind event coordinator Ciaran White said: “I am very much looking forward to our star wars event, especially to see what people come dressed up as.

“It will be a great event for kids who like Star Wars to come to as an early Christmas present.”

Ciaran and two Storm Troopers joined Tesco community champion Lesley Davey at the store in Roneo Corner, Hornchurch, last week to promote the event.

The Stars Wars Convention will run from 10am to 4pm. Tickets for adults are £5 and tickets for children aged between five and 14-years-old are £2.
