Students from both colleges will now go head-to-head in the catwalk showdown, on Friday, using clothes entirely sourced from Saint Francis Hospice donations.

Competitors will be allowed to tailor and alter garments, before sending models down the runway, where a panel of judges will pick the best designs.

Money raised from ticket sales will go to the Recorder’s 30for30 campaign, aiming to raise £30,000 for the hospice in its 30th anniversary year.

Jo Price, fashion course leader at Barking & Dagenham College, said: “Our joint efforts will help ensure the essential services and support the hospice provides to people with life-limiting illnesses can continue. We look forward to taking on the challenge.”

Students have been scouring charity shops for ideas and currently putting together their designs.

College principal Maria Thompson said: “We are delighted to be working with the Recorder group and Saint Francis Hospice to help raise funds for the hospice.

“It is a charity at the heart of our local community and the money our combined efforts raise will help support their caring work in helping people affected by life-limiting illnesses and their families.

“The competition is an exciting challenge for our students as they will get to choose some secondhand clothes which they will then recycle and restyle into their own designs.

“I am sure everyone will look forward to seeing the results of their creativity in the catwalk show.”
