Fifteen Year 10 pupils from The Albany School have completed the level one course with a Rugby Football Union coach at the school, and are hoping the coaching course will also help with their GCSE PE leadership module.

Teachers said the pupils worked extremely hard and their behaviour was exemplary throughout the course.

They added that they hope the pupils will be able to help with coaching at local primary schools and eventually run tag rugby tournaments with local schools.

The pupils will play a big part this summer during the borough’s mini-Olympics, where eight primary schools will compete for awards

Headteacher at The Albany, Adam Thorne, said: “Tag rugby is a brilliant concept for fitness and agility, the fact it is non-contact and can be played by both boys and girls makes it accessible to all.”
