More than 2,200 people registered with a doctor’s practice have been told they must register elsewhere as it is set to close down.

The sole doctor at South Hornchurch Clinic, Dr Mustaq Ahmad Wani, is set to retire on June 30 and NHS England has decided not to replace him.

NHS England has told patients to register with another practice in the area and it will not fill the vacancy left by the outgoing doctor.

The clinic based in the South Hornchurch Health Centre, in South End Road, South Hornchurch, will close on the doctor’s last day.

The other practice in the health centre, Mungo Park Surgery, will remain open and is registering new patients.

A spokesman from NHS England in London said: “NHS England looked at the practice and determined what the next step will be.

“There are several other GP surgeries within a mile of the South Hornchurch Clinic, including one based in the same building, which are currently registering new patients.

“People should ask to register with other doctors in the area as there are plenty of others.”

Brian Parker, 77, of South End Road, who has visited the practice for 20 years, said it was a struggle to register with another doctors in the area.

“It’s a lot of people now trying to get on another doctor’s books,” he said.

A drop in session will be held at the closing surgery on May 29 between 1pm and 3pm where patients can receive further information about how to register with a new practice.

But Mr Parker was not happy with this.

“A lot of people have said it’s a disgrace. This meeting should have been taken as soon as the doctor handed in his notice,” he said.

“There’s no time to organise anything like maybe a protest. It seems done and dusted now.”

Patients who cannot attend the meeting can call NHS England customer services on 0300 311 2233.
