A six vehicle crash on the M11 this morning saw one woman taken to hospital with serious head injuries and long delays for motorists.

At 7.10am, six cars collided on the M11 between Junctions 4 and 5 near Chigwell.

Three fire crews, two from Harlow and one from Loughton attended the scene, using cutting equipment to remove the roof from one car to free an unconscious woman who was trapped in her vehicle.

An air ambulance and land ambulance attended the scene and the woman was taken to Queen’s Hospital, Rom Valley Way, Romford. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The other occupants of the vehicles did not need hospital treatment.

The M11 is currently closed southbound between Junction 6 M25 and Junction 4, A406 (Woodford) and long delays are expected.
