Christmas sale shoppers were out in full force on Boxing Day morning in Romford.
Armed with spending money, they took on the crowds as they looked to get their hands on the hottest sale items.
The Liberty Shopping Centre and The Mercury Mall were two of the busiest destinations for the eager shoppers on one of the busiest retail days of the year.
Susan Williamson, marketing manager at The Liberty, said the day was a triumph for the shopping centre – matching last year’s footfall.
“The sales were a success for both retailers and shoppers alike, with footfall of 70,000 shoppers,” she said,
“And the centre continued to have a festive feel and upbeat atmosphere.”
Spencer Hawken, deputy centre manager of The Mercury, said although the centre experienced a “really, really busy morning,” it then emptied at around 2pm – which he put down to the early morning opening of some stores.
“It was absolutely heaving in the morning. There were massive queues,” he said,
“But opening at 6am rips the heart out of Christmas sales because nobody can last the course.”
