The Mayor and other special guests were treated to a comedy performance at a school renaming ceremony.

Cllr Eric Munday formally declared Sanders Draper School renamed to Sanders School last month at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

At the event, the mosaic depicting the new school emblem was completed by the Mayor, the head teacher, the chair of governors and some lucky students.

At one point the Mayor had to lift up year seven student Nicholas McMahon who was unable to reach the mosaic to place his tile.

Six students provided the comedy entertainment with a sketch about education throughout the decades ranging from the 40s to the present and beyond.

Head teacher John McEachern said: “The renaming was a part of the continuing drive to become an outstanding centre of learning.

“The new school emblem, name and badge all connect together to create a strong brand image for this school that is dynamic and forward looking. I am extremely proud of the staff and students who have led this momentous event in the school’s history.”
